There are 2 facts we are observing which are gaining steam and momentum.

STEAM – With AI adoption across big-tech, the companies are observing redundancies in their workforce.

MOMENTUM – Not just redundancies, organizations are also observing that a displacement is possible in their workforce. Displacement – meaning that the work which was earlier done by a human can now be done by an AI agent. Case in point, QA or basic arithmetic design (not complex technical architecture).

And with both the steam and momentum the companies are choosing to part ways (aka layoff) to reduce costs and increase profits.

BUT, I’m not trying to paint a doomsday scenario here. Maybe I am. But this is not about the cons (or the Pros) of AI adoption.

This post is a simple logical derivation of – What will happen if this continues??

How will overall Economy change if the STEAM and MOMENTUM continue to gain pace.

And what do I mean by Economy. Its got two scope.

Micro-Economies – which mean your house, your locality and your neighbor

Macro-Economies – which is organization, country, global trade and governmental spends

PART A: The AI Layoff Economic Impact Framework

The Primary Shock (The Micro Level)

This is the immediate “ground zero” of the layoff. It focuses on the displaced workforce and corporate balance sheets.

Income Compression: Immediate loss of purchasing power for displaced workers.

Corporate Margin Expansion: Companies see reduced “opex” (operating expenses), leading to a short-term spike in profitability and stock valuations.

Skill Obsolescence: A rapid “devaluation” of specific human capital (e.g., entry-level coding, basic data entry).

The Secondary Ripple (The Macro Level)

As individual layoffs scale into industry trends, the broader economy begins to react.

The Consumption Gap: If a large enough segment of the middle class loses income, aggregate demand drops.
